Contractor scammed Sandy victims, indictment alleges



An Ocean County man is facing a criminal charge for allegedly scamming Superstorm Sandy victims, authorities say. Darin Smith, 45, of Whiting was arrested last week and charged with second degree theft, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced in a release. According to the release, an indictment issued in late September alleges that Smith, the owner of Heritage Construction Enterprises Corporation, contracted with four homeowners to renovate their homes after they received damage during Superstorm Sandy. The homes are located in Long Beach, Ship Bottom, Tuckerton, and Toms River.
